DC Snow fail

January 07, 2015

Let's be honest, even with one New England winter under my belt, the blood that runs through my veins is Floridian. The majority of my winters were not spent dealing with snow or scraping it off my car. For the last few days a light snow was in the forecast for the morning commute and it was predicted to be a light dusting up to an inch. When I looked out the window at 6:30 am it was clear that we would be getting much more than a dusting of the white stuff. Driving in the snow in Worcester were the snow plows were on top of things was not the same experience I had today in Northern Virginia. The snow was excepted to hit during morning rush hour and yet even main roads around town had not been plowed by the time I left for work at 8:00.

What normally is a 10 minute (at max 15 minute) commute to work took me 2 hours. The roads were in horrible shape and cars had to go extremely slow and cautious. I must have prayed to God at least dozen times to let me make it there safely. I was shocked that the department of transportation had not plowed or salted the roads prior to morning rush. I am thankful to have made it to work with my car in tact. Hello Winter. I guess this is why people move to Florida.

  2. Yes, that is a stay at home kind of day :) The Southern states are not equipped to handle snow like more northern states...snow=chaos.
